Computer Hygiene
« on: June 05, 2006, 11:21:47 am »
I was interested in which programs any of you may use to keep your software and OS clean and healthy, and what sort of regimen you follow.  I run Spybot S&D and AdAware once per week, Clam-Win Anti-Virus every other week, and a program called CrapCleaner daily.  For those of you who aren't familiar with CrapCleaner, it's a program that clears out all sorts of temp files from the OS and other applications.

Norton Anti-Virus 2006
Ad-aware free edition
Spybot Search and Destroy

I scan all files I download with Norton before I do anything with them.
Norton scans my entire PC at 4 AM every night and I use the anti-spyware stuff after I visit adult themed sites.

CCleaner does a good job of deleting all the unecessary files from your computer including your net files, mem dumps, chkdsk file fragments, old prefetch data, index.dat files, even any temp files for your apps like openoffice, adobe, wmp, wmm, ms management console, and spybot too :D
you can set it to overwrite the data several times to insure no hackers, friends , or even spouses ;) find out what you've been doin....

it even checks registry integrity for missing shared dll's, unused file extensions, mui cache....

i use it a lot as u can tell :)

I don't bother using anything. I just try a different OS every 3 months or so.
