Tip to reduce memory errors
« on: July 06, 2006, 05:01:00 pm »
About two weeks ago, I stopped overclocking my cpu, memory, and hypertransport/northbridge/fsb.  Since then, I've been getting memory errors a lot less often, especially the ones that seem to happen in groups -- the ones where a bunch of players are dropped from the server with timeout errors.  I didn't change any other system settings or drivers during this time, but I can't say for sure that the two things are related.  At the very least, maybe someone else with have the same luck I've had, and if it's someone like Jes, I can stop being blamed for all her crashes.

Lol, I have an emachine. Let me see if I have overclocked that bad boy....

Definately a good idea to try out though. Get any more of those, then pass them this way. Until then I will continue to blame you for all of my errors ok

I overclock.  I haven't had many problems at all once I killed my clientregistry.blob file.  I'd say I get *maybe* one a night anymore.

I've been searching on the forums, mainly steam-powered forums...
and I don't see that many people complaining about crashes, is it just us?
No one seems to have any answers, this is really aggravating me.
I play for 2 hours and get 10 crashes. my favorite game is getting ruined here.
I may have to start playing CS:s and DOD:s more, since they don't crash that often...
if at all. Valve needs to get this fixed before they start losing customers.

well like my last post suggested i would try n de-oc ur pc and see how it does. if it performs better then there is ur problem. besides is 10-20 frames per sec any better when u already get 50 and above?

no overclocking for me. I don't care about diminished framerates,
I've tried backing off the resolution to 800 x 600
and turning down the graphics quality, it looks like ass, and
yes it still crashes.

well when was the last time u did a full reinstall? usually i need to do it bout every 3 mos or so to get my comp back up to normal. for some reason a fresh install with all the drivers and what not makes it run much smoother. also u dont have a lot of crap on ur desktop do u? that stuff is stored in ur memory and eats up space. each short cut isnt much byitself but when u have 20,30-40 of em it adds up. also if ur runnin amd w nvidia chips then use ntune. itll tweak ur system for whatever u prefer( system performance, game performance, quality, etc)

I used to do a full re-install of winXP from scratch every few months,
my old system was very unstable. My new system is stable all the time.
I have no reason to re-install yet. I run winpatrol to keep tabs on what is trying to run
in the background, if a program tries, it gets slapped around. I only let zonealarm
and winpatrol run in the background. I have an AMD chip and an ATI video card.

hmmmmm  :-\. well ive heard some good things but mostly bad things about via chipsets. they pretty much depend on how long the mobo has been established, how good the drivers are, as well as ur bios. im sure u have the latest drivers for ur via chipset. another problem may be that ur via drivers may conflict w ur video cards drivers.( ati vid cards are known to be picky w what it wants to cooperate w) well thats bout all i got. oh umm i also read that the error" source memory 0000  0000 " blah blah blah could also be the early stages of a hardrive going bad. or ur powersupply could be weakening causing ur harddrive or memory to malfunction from time to time. thats all i got man besides saying it may be time to get a new computer(or parts anyways)
