Custom Models for Maps
« on: October 31, 2006, 01:21:00 am »
Tonight I hit a milestone... something I've been trying to do for a long time now.
I created a model with Maya, then imported it into source.
This was a test, I wanted to make a cheap desk as a static prop.

The desk is textured appropriately, but I miscalculated the scale of the model
in Maya. After playing around for a bit I was able to put it in garry's mod and toss it round a bit
with the grav gun.

BEHOLD! The Tiny Desk of 1,000 Truths!

Now I can make the pool table I've always wanted.
Hopefully I can accidentally get all the settings right a second time to produce
a SECOND working model, and hopefully at the right scale...

There will be more to come, for those interested in this sort of thing....

Looks good Smack, nice job.  ;) I'd swing by Facepunch once and a while and maybe try to scim some knowledge off them guys since theres so many modders and builders on the forum. If you don't feel like building a certain prop you can feign inocents and make a request for it. Thats how a lot of the stuff gets made over there.

P.S I'll keep looking for that pool table, since the pyshics for working balls has got to be a nightmare

thanks fellas!

I don't actually need it to be a working pool table, its for show, I'll prolly
make the pool cues too. I notice most of the guys over there are brutal on other people's work.

I can actually, but I want mine to be different.
You don't have to decompile anything actually, I could use all of his models,
if I wanted to. Of course I'd ask him for permission first.
Not that there's anything wrong with his pool table, but I want mine to
be a different style.

A good while before I ever came here, shortly after Garry's mod fist came out, I was very very active in the Garry's Mod forum.

Lots of priceless comics and what not. I don't know how it is now, but they were very warm at the time.

I need to learn UV mapping, but it turned out OK I guess.
Having problems compiling it for Source use, but I
found a video tutorial, I'll have to take extensive notes.

Archon really needs to have a large mechanical wang. It would be very funny.
