Steam Connection Problem
« on: August 31, 2007, 05:06:13 pm »
All of a sudden I can't connect to steam!

No hardware/software changes; every thing else internet related seems to work fine.

Others are on the server...

Hit steampowered.com for support issues.  Not sure what would cause that, but they have pretty extensive options these days.

everything starts with "delete your clientregistry.blob file" - so I would start with that.

No one would ever mistake you for meph, Sinner.

Believe it or not, we all have a .blob in our record.

i went to steampowered.com, sent an email, no reply yet.

i searched through the answer centre with nothing really helpful...they said things like, check your router, firewall, viruses, spyware etc...nothing has changed and i ran both virus and spyware checks.

interesting turn of events.

i installed steam on my laptop (on the same wireless network but no DMZ) which also has the same client firewall, and it works!

no idea what it is on my computer that is doing this. maybe i'll try a internet cookie purge.

GAH!

OMG.

So in desperation, I installed Windows Vista (which I couldn't install clean for some reason...had to be run from my existing version of Windows)

And then still no joy.

And I thought, hmm...maybe I will DISABLE the DMZ...and voila, steam starts working. WTF.

and I always thought a dmz was a demilitarized zone.  Guess that's why people don't call me a hacker.
