um, possibly along the macro line of thought...It takes me some time to eat a sandvich. Most of the time when I actually spot Xykon eat a sandvich near combat he pulls it out, stops for a split second, ducks & jumps & switches weapons, and keeps moving. I'm not sure what to think of that, reminds me of how some people switched weapons in counterstrike when sniping because it was faster than the delay on the weapon.
I never thought of drop eating...
The drop/eat trick ... to me valve have screwed up. The sandvich is meant to take 4 seconds to eat. A scripted drop/eat/walk bypasses the process. Yeah it only gives you half health recovery, but for a heavy, thats 150HP...
In Meet the Scout, the Heavy's Sandvich-eating is interrupted by an enemy Scout, who kills the Heavy with his Bat before eating the Sandvich over his corpse. The fact that when a Scout eats the Sandvich of an enemy Heavy he has killed, he recovers more health than any other class could be taken as a nod to the item's original inspiration.
You folks are going way out there on this stuff. I call it working as intended and a good option. Takes a second or two to pull out the sandvich and drop it and grab it off the ground, sounds balanced since the full eat time is only 4 seconds.Frankly, I am resisting (unsuccessfully) the urge to say "get over it."
