usurp basically means to steal, but has historically been used in the context of taking possession of something for a time, though that thing existed long before the individual who usurped it, and will continue to exist long afterwards.  eg. Prince John Usurped the crown of England from King Richard Cœur de Lion.

From what I remember you joined two days after I did, plus the server was something I helped pay for with my friends from school. We pretty much took the clan from troyhw once we bought a server.
