It doesn't eliminate the ability to wait for the team of your choice, Mega.  It just makes it harder.  As for losing the ability to spectate, that royally sucks.  Especially if there aren't many people on, I can't go grab a snack without disconnecting because it really screws my team over if anyone else joins.

you can spectate if you are afk for a certain time. although if it's full don't be suprised to get kicked lol
