Allan and Batt's scores have me cruising the web for 9600GT scores.  I am well on the low side.  Most people with dual cores are easily topping 10k with the card, so I am going to see what i am doing wrong.

Speaking of doing something wrong....

The 8600GT in the laptop is coming up with 3259 vs the desktop with the 7800GT @ 4079 3DMarks.

Something doesn't seem right about that. When playing I get better framerates with the laptop even with the laptop set at 1920x1200 vs the desktop 1280x1024, not to mention the desktop only running medium settings while the laptop has everything maxed.

Funny that is a bit odd.  I tried an overclock of about 5% on the gpu and the cpu and it crashed right at the end of the test.  I don't think that little 8600 card can take that so I think its best to settle with what i got lol

alright clarity needed here.meph i expected your score to be higher than mine but not by that margin.your still running the 4000+amd single core right at the stock 2.4ghz and 2gb ram?i'm running 2.2ghz 3500+ 2gb ram and 2 7900gto.your card is no doubt better-25 mhz faster core clock but 480mhz faster on mem. speed, and we both have 400 mhz ramdac.i have 24 pixel pipelines and you have 64 stream processors, different technology i'm sure.but my gripe is i'm running in sli and still got smoked by yours not that i didn't expect a lower score just not by that margin.i'm thinking of doing a series of tests and finding the deal.

I grabbed n-Tune, installed some hacked drivers (this is the laptop, normal drivers from nVidia wont install). And am now running the core at 575 and the memory at 500. Not too much as far as testing how stable it is, but it did complete 3DMark with a new score of 3822 *shrugs*
Sadly due to a locked down Dell Bios I can't try to get anything out of the bus or cpu.

I'll try to push the gpu/mem up higher later and see how much I can get out of it.

be careful with that laptop buddy. i know its a beast but don't break it...  :-\

and to meph... the higher scores might be people that are over clocking and turning off the normal background stuff.

Hehe, no.  I am on a 5000+ BE Dual core these days.  Altho the 7900 series is definitely a lot slower than the 8800's and 9x00's.  A single 8800\9x00 card is significantly faster than 2 7900 series in SLi mode.

With a *very* modest OC on my CPU, I topped 9000 - 9006 to be exact.  So what this means is that I am not impressed with the 5000+ BE at stock speeds (2.6GHz).  A 200 MHz boost gets me 200 points :P .  But I don't OC anymore, so I don't even have a good air cooler on this thing.  I already set it back to stock speeds.  I just mainly wanted to see what was the bottleneck, and I found it.

broke my system down and cleaned it,took almost 4 hours.omg it was sad to see just how far i had let it go.relocated the rear 120mm fan to the side panel, now it's blowing out from the gr. cards.routed all my cables much more cleanly this time.put it all back together and installed the newest drivers from nvidia.

ran 3dmark and no real improvement 5690 i think has been my highest.but i noticed something kinda strange. when i open 3dmark my cpu instantly goes to 100% usage and stays there, this is before i even start the test.run the test and get my score and exit out of 3dmark.tried to get on ki site and man my pc was running like shiaaaat, won't open anything hardly, laggy real bad.i control alt delete and see that the process for 3dmark still has my cpu by the balls even though i closed the program already.100% all the time never drops.so i end the process and all is well.is this the way it runs or what?another thing i noticed is during the cpu tests scetion i never got above 0 fps.

what speed did you get your 8600s up to? I got mine up to 650 mhz
