No.  I didn't have to enter anything concerning XP when I switched out to Vista.  The install twice ploy didn't work for me anyway, since there was something wrong with my x32 install disk.

The x64 went in as a brand new install, and that one worked.  No XP product number was required.

No, gene.  Your code is a valid license for Windows Vista.  It allows you to run Windows Vista.  The code is different than a full version code, but only to the validation server, not to Microsoft licensing.
