restart in safe mode. run antivirus again.  i prefer using symantec antivirus...i'm sure everyone here has their own favourite scanner.

Antispyware software does absolutely nothing against viruses.

Ad Aware will not stop viruses.

you can try avg free

I own/use AVG, Symantec products leave a sour taste at the back of my mouth.
I do what I like.  You have problem?

I switched to Avast! back when AVG didn't have a 64-bit version available and vista 64-bit came out.  It's free and has less annoying update popups than AVG.

Do you know the name of the virus or process name that is suspect?  It's a lot easier to help you remove it if we know which one it is.

try bitdefender.  they have a free one you can download.  Also, do you know the name of the virus? Cause normally they have forums online that you can read. Most likely someone else has had it, and posted how to fix the problem.  My buddy had a virus that canceled out explorer.exe.  So all he icons and start bar would disappear.  You could bring it back by running the command, but 20 seconds later it would cancel it again.  Took me a good week to figure it out
