Topic: slow loading steam games.....

ok so basically since i finally got good internet back, i started playing CSS and TF2 and whatnot again, but idk, for some reason my computer decided to freeze when i hit "start game" or whatnot. it freezes steam only, but it does this for about a minute or so, then it unfreezes, but takes about 10 freaking minutes to get into any steam game. i've uninstalled EVERYTHING that had to do with steam, and still no avail. can anyone help me out with this? has anyone had this problem before? as well as is there anyway to reduce choke in counter strike? i have an 8600gt graphics card, as well as i'm on pretty good internet at my previous room-mates house. so ya.....if anyone can help that'd be awesome!

well if ur using vista you could try running it in compatibility mode for xp

nope, no vista. not for me. i hates it. i have it on my laptop and it is godforsaken slow. even with 2GB.

i have vista on my laptop and it runs css and tf2 fine o.o granted, if it gets too hot it will lag, but otherwise there was no problem o.o

thanks anomoly. finally a true answer that might help (lol besides the vista comment) stfu jader. i don't DL porn. that's my room-mates job...but you aren't supposed to know that. hope it works.....it was working fine before, like before last semester started when internet was great. but since i didn't play it for a while it just pooped out on me. and i don't know what went wrong.

i had a random issue or 2 will steam my self in the past. i believe its something to do with steam updating its self or something but yea.... thats what fixed it for me.

hmmm well i'm actually trying to load CSS right now, but its still doing the same thing, and i'm only using windows firewall (ya i know it sucks) and i just turned it off, it had Tf2 not on the exception list but that's it....it had css on there and it was checked.....grrr this is starting to upset me. i'm just going to send a message to steam and see if they can't help fix it. thanks for the advice on trying to fix it though guys.

well the only things I can think of now, run registry mechanic and scan for viruses/malware/spyware

where's registry mechanic? i run my spyware every day at 3pm. its pretty freaking amazingly great at scanning for things. i probably should do a scan. did one not too long ago, didn't come up with anything, but i'll try it since i recently downloaded AVG 8.0. thanks dawg
