vista is pissing me off and i havent even gotten to install it yet. It keeps asking for my cd drivers..why would it ask for drivers if it was able to start the install in the first place..I hate the jump to a new os..I guess im gonna have to buy a vista cert cd/dvd combo. :'(

It seems weird that it would get to the point to ask for drivers. What make and model drive do you have? Perhaps you could try to find Vista drivers on the web, burn them to a CD and then load them when asked. I'm sorry I can't help more because I've never had to explicitly load drivers for my disk drive, it's just one of those things that Windows already knows how to run.

Idea, not to insult your intelligence, but you said "cd drivers" and then later "vista cert cd/dvd combo." Are you trying to install Vista (which comes on a DVD) using a CD drive that has no DVD capability? If that's the case, you're trying the impossible. Buy a new drive.

A DVD-RW/CD-RW drive will cost you $25-35 depending on what you get. You can even pick up SATA drive and start the transition away from those horrible IDE ribbons!!!

As for Vista haters clubs, I'm a total Vista fan. I've really had a good experience and I think Microsoft has really delivered a fine product that is significantly better than XP. I bought my Ultimate copy the day it was released to the consumers (January 31, 2007) and I never had many compatibility problems list you hear people vaguely refering to all the time. And it's only gotten better with time, Windows updates, and increased developer support. A few old applications don't work and some games have trouble. Most notable: Splinter Cell series, not necessarily known for stability anyway. My friend ran Splinter Cell on Vista without problems though. All in all I've found it to be worthy and superior successor to XP.

I will join any IE hating though. ;)

You could do the smart thing and just get a NAT router.  Then it doesn't matter WHAT OS you use.  EVER.  I suggest the Linksys.

Do you know if the old Sygate Personal Firewall software works with Vista x64? I guess it's a 1/100 shot, but it's one of the most wonderful programs I've ever ran.

I always use to use an old version of Tiny Personal Firewall ( 2.0.15a ).  It was pretty simple to use and pretty feature full.
