Don't load the beta, make sure you are loading Beta *1*

The initial Windows 7 beta (7000 build) has a bug that corrupts MP3 files as you play them.

I am pretty anxious to get a hold of W7, as well.  The way MS is talking, this beta is actually very close to a final version - which makes sense since W7 is just a recompiled and optimized Vista with a more modular design.

The build that we downloaded was 7000.  There is a KB that we downloaded also KB961367  I'm installing now and will check version info upon reboot.

MS has been saying that the beta released this week will not have the bug, but I would suggest further research before you play music to make sure - or back up your MP3s.

The Beta will be released to Partners tomorrow.  Not sure when the general public will get a hold of it.  Today's release is only to Technet and MSDN subscribers.

MS Beta's are surprisingly good.  I would ordinarily not trust beta software, either, but you know how some people are, harry

Normally MS has a 120 day cut off on their beta\RC\trials.

Don't they release patches for that?

No.  They release the next version of the OS.  After 120 days, you clean install the next version - you do not update them.

Okay, an update about the MP3 issue.

The version of the beta being released publically has the MP3 issue.  The access page for the download of the beta includes a separate download of a patch to fix the issue.

Do not install the beta and listen to MP3 files without also tracking down the patch.

I am still patiently waiting for my access to the beta, which is supposed to have happened 1 minute ago.
