You may also use EasyBCD.

ok so i have recently given iTunes the boot and witched to Songbird. i'm really liking it and it hasn't given me any problems except it wont play and mp4 [protected] files that i bought off iTunes oh so long ago, like Caesars 39 seconds of bliss album for example. anyone know a free program to convert those files to say, mp3's? i mean i can use windows media player to convert it but i'd first have to burn all of those songs to a disk, then rip them back into my computer in a different format.

You can't convert encrypted MP4 files.  You need to load iTunes, burn them to a cd and then re-rip them.  Also, learn the lesson - proprietary crap WILL bite you in the ass.

pretty sure this works the same way for the newer Zune software as well. im using the 14day free trial but i will not be subscribing to "Zune Pass" which for $14.99 you get unlimited access to all the music they have there (which is a pretty big collection). plus 10 free music downloads a month that you get to keep even after you cancel your Zune pass.

only thing is im pretty sure you can only play the songs thru your zune or the zune software.... f that. if it wasn't DRM it would be a totally different story. oh well...

oh, and kinda disappointed the Zune developers decided to not allow drag and drop functionality. i knew this before i bought the Zune HD but still sucks. i really liked that about my Creative Zen. your could you use the n00b friendly software or just go into "my computer" and drag and drop what ever you basically wanted. i hope that they will change that in the future but im not holing my breath.

Another option for DRM laced music is Audacity and an audio cable.

Connect headphone jack from mp3 player to aux input on sound card.  Run Audacity, record, hit play on MP3 player.  save file as MP3.

thats kinda the only way i can get all the stuff i have on my minidisc collection.  i no longer have 80% of the CDs i owned at that time and i know the minidisc player will stop working some day. so now i only turn it on to record my tracks to my PC Sad

i use a program called "cool edit pro". you have to record the music in real time. which is a down side, but sometimes its the only way.  Undecided
