As a reminder of two things:

THURSDAY is the last day you will be able to directly download the W7 Release Candidate.  Please grab them now if you have been holding off.

Also you will NOT be able to upgrade from the RC to the Final version of Windows 7.

i don't think ill have the cash for 7 at the moment. but i did grab the 32 & 64 bit versions today from the MS site. it said they should work until June of next year. then sometime after that it will start rebooting bi-hourly with a friendly reminder to plz buy the OS.

i will be running this on one of my spare drives and possibly using it for everyday use... gaming and all.  :)

i saw that earlier today on the Windows 7 website. considered doing it since lately XP has given me a lot of issues with "windows updates". Yes i know what i said about not liking vista in earlier postings but i'm beginning to get fed up with xp and it 'mysteriously' deleting some essential programs and applications and "failing" to install any of my updates.

Quick question though, how much is Windows 7 going for? Does anyone know? I would really like to get my hands on it. I did see the download link for the Release Candidate but i didn't have time to check it out this morning. had to run to class. What is the difference between RC and the final version of W7? Kind of like a beta? Please and thank you for any answers.

im pretty sure right now you can grab a copy of vista pretty much any ware and they will give you a "upgrade to 7" coupon.

i believe this isn't the best route to go for people that reinstall their OS a lot or make frequent hardware changes. but i don't know this to be a fact. just what ive heard, plz correct me if im wrong.

running the 64bit version right now. took maybe 20min (if that) to install on a sata 5400rpm laptop HDD. seems to be running smooth so far aside froim the BSOD i got right after installing adobe flash.

running on a Q6600 @ 3.2ghz, 4gb 1066mhz, 8800gt 512mb. scored a 4.5 on windows experience cuz of the slow HDD. score went like so:

CPU: 7.3
RAM: 7.3
graphics: 5.9
3D graphics: 5.9
HDD: 4.5

might try some games and other programs i use dayily tomorrow if i get out of work at a deacent time.

Drem, the RC (Release Candidate) is the final beta of the process.  The development release schedule for almost all software goes:

Pre-Alpha (mostly proof of concept)
Alpha
Beta 0.1 - .99
Release Candidate
Release To Manufacturer (also known as Gold)

The full pricing was released a few weeks ago, but  don't have it handy.  I remember that it lines up with Vista pricing, tho.  The W7 beta and RC both are incredibly stable.  Since W7 is based heavily on a 2 year old operating system, it is almost entirely quality of life changes, and tightening up the code.  Compare this to the Windows 2000 and Windows XP releases.  XP was 2k with many many user enhancements and tweaks, so the XP beta went almost as smoothly as thw W7 beta (but not really, it was terrible at first :D ).

FYI the RC will start rebooting automatically every 2 hours starting 3/1/10, and expire on 6/1/10.

Ultimate and Professional are available for Partners with the Action Pack.  Just like Vista it is 1 copy of ultimate and 10 copies of Pro.  Vista is still listed as well, so you may have to expand the tree in the window to see it.
