-->sentence discribing illegal activity deleted - mk <--  i didnt like windows 7 at all because it reminds me of windows server 200X and is annoying with EVERYTHING.  but at least if you multiboot with it on another partition its very easy to recover your boot loader for just XP.  ill stick with XP until i see that 7 has a better version where everything doesnt revolve around requiring to run as administrator and yet nothing works when you try to install it when you do.

i dont like the control panel, i dont like the driver support, its a big memory hog that for sure even when using everythings windows classic, and disabling as many unnecessary services as possible.  im sure that things will change in the next year or 2 (when they release windows 8-9-10)  to make it simple.

until then ill stick to XP and Slackware/Backtrack.

1. I wouldn't admit of downloading big name products like that illegally.. (i downloaded Professional for free through the school I'm with, AND i got a free hard copy of ultimate from my parent's work rewards program)... the powers that be may warn you for it.

2. 7 is a LOT better than vista, which my laptop was stuck with upon purchase

3. You can always disable UAC. They don't force you to use it. (at least with Vista)

4. 7 is not a memory hog. it uses less memory to run than Vista (AFAIK). Even if you leave Firefox on idle, it will use up resources (at least on prior versions).

5. Windows generally runs on a 3 year cycle since 3.1. so don't expect 8, and certainly not 9 or 10 within the next year or 2.

6. IMO 7 is better than XP. if not a fan for windows, i can always get open source Linux or... *shudders* even the Mac OS if I wanted.

sorry for posting that link....i do encourage supporting software companies.  ive bought enough computers with XP so i dont even bother going to buy an actual legit CD.  i installed windows 7 and didnt like it at all.  the major reason i dont like it is because of the DRIVER SUPPORT.  i run an oldschool SB Audigy and there are no drivers for it that ive found.....the latest are only for XP......thank the gods.

but as my previous post said i do not like the arrangement they made (control panel etc etc etc).  i will take your word for it when you say its better than vista (after all vista lasted for a VERY short time).
they just strive to compete with GUI's like GNOME and KDE with their options etc.  *nix is just a pain if youve used windows and dos as long as i have.......no matter what distro i get i ALWAYS have some sort of problem.  whether it be drivers.....compiling....dependencies....not being able to cruise IRC as root....etc.  slackware has always been good to me though.
