Topic: CSS Achievements - Your thoughts?

Someone called me an elitist for saying so, but imho CSS is a damn fine game the way it is, and does not need, nor should it have, achievements.  It's one of those "old school" games that kept butts in the seat playing because it was quality; not because of a completionist mechanic.

Either way, I'm sure most of us would have earned these many times over in the past years.  Guess the powers that be decided to ensure the OCD prone amongst their player base would not be drifting away any time soon.

I don't care.  The only way I would care is if they include bonuses that change the game play.  Adding achievements means nothing to regulars, and may draw old players back to the game.

Guys if you don't like the achievements, it is a very simple solution - don't click on the Achievements menu option.

I don't even care if they make the small announcement at the bottom left of the screen, so long as it doesn't light up a big icon above your head like in TF2.

My argument is on principle more than anything else.  I don't have to go see the remake of Red Dawn, but that doesn't change the fact that i feel the world is less pristine place because it [movie] was made.

Won't affect my gameplay, unless i get a$shat teammates that that wont pick up the bomb/use kit because they are going for some "allergic to explosives' achievement.

i dont play CSS much at all so i guess i dont count but why change a thing thats been doing fine just the way it is?

if they want more sales why don't they just release a expansion? that way they don't piss off the die hard CSS fan that have been loving the way it is for yrs now? 

that way if you don't want the changes don't buy it and don't play on server that are running the new content....

I think it mostly depends on how the "community" behaves.  I really don't care if achievements are there or not as long as people don't take them too serious.  Once people got overly concerned with achievements, hats, and other shit on TF2 I really became tired of it.   I hope it doesn't change CS:S that way. 

I guess we will know when the first achievement farm server starts up.

i am with meph, if you don't like them, don't check them.  as long as it doesn't change the actual game play for some as they earn achievements like COD.  however i can see it becoming one of those games that i don't enjoy because some asshat wants to tell me that he is better because he has achievements.  I think it is pretty safe to say that i don't really see it affecting kI much since none of us really care!?  and that's why i like kI- cause we just play to hang out.  i for one will not be changing the way i play the game just to get achievements!

From my observations in life, and in TF2 ... watch for the stat whores and fools playing not to your teams advantage in order to unlock achievements.

as far as i know (from what i played in the beta so far), achievements only show up in the chat ("xxx has earned yyy" and on the steam overlay.

nothing about hats / powerups / etc

just achievements
