sorry. i didnt realize 2.2 isnt out yet. except the Nexis 1 right?

i might end up trading some PC hardware for a moto droid (as a spare toy). if i do ill be rooting the crap out of it. ive read they can hit 1Ghz no prob. that combined with froyo would be sick.

How much will that affect the battery life if you overclock it?

it would really depend on the hardware. i dont know from exp. just from what ive read but ive heard of people running 1Ghz moto Droids with undervolted ROMs. which should equate to better or equal battery life than stock.

i would assume from the OCing over head on the moto Droid the CPU was probably intended to run at a higher clock out of the box but Motorola down clocked it to save battery life.

i wounder how much overhead the X will have, 1.5Ghz????...

it seems the Incredible isnt a very good OCer. so far people have had success only to about 1.2Ghz, which the moto Droid can already hit and its older tech. soo yea. not to good for the snapdragon.

While the droid seems fine with oc, keep in mind that is a 40 percent oc. Some have been successful with a high as 1200, but the phone gets hot at stock depending on what you are doing.  One thing I've learned from the droid is that more powerful doesn't always mean better.  Also 2.2 gets less benefit from oc than previous versions of android thanks to jit.

is that good or bad?

is jit some kind of code or CPU instruction set?

JIT is Just In Time compiling.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_compilation

2.2 runs substantially faster than anything before it.

Even without 2.2 or OC, there are ways to get a more fluid feel to everything.  Like I replaced the standard home screen with LauncherPro.  LP is in beta, but is rock solid.  It feels smooth and fast, gives me up to 7 homescreens (Droid is limited to 3 out of the box) and a nicer app drawer.

My main reason for wanting to root is to be able to customize graphics that cannot be worked on normally as they are part of the OS.  I have not rooted yet simply because I would rather not bother with it until Android passes up the Droid and they are no longer updating the device over the air (OTA).

I just don't do "bleeding edge" anymore.

i feel the same way. if its coming out in a legit update in due time why bother messing anything up.

on the other hand, if the device is EOL, rooting is the only way to get the newer stuff.

i do plan on trying some customization out, but not at the expense of borking my phone.  so i dont see my self rooting for 2 reasons.  1. i need my phone to work & 2. $500 is too much money to pay for a replacement b4 my contract is up.

thanks for the tip on LP. using it on my DX now with all the goodies turned on. runs smoooooth...

the stock UI was too laggy for my taste. i like the customization of the moto widgets, just couldn't stand the lag. i didn't give it much time tho, maybe about 5 min of messing around before i got tired 20fps. it may of helped if i removed some of the crapware off the screens but i don't think it would be as smooth as LP. maybe ill go back to stock after 2.2 to see if its any better.

any other key apps i should grab?
