Logitech Z5300 speakers failure
« on: May 04, 2011, 07:39:39 am »
I have the Z5300 and really loved it. I liked it so much I gave the control pod some wine and it doesn't work anymore.Against my better judgement, I went and got the Bose companion 3 as a replacement except that I hate it. It sucks for games.

Im considering the following options. What do you guys think?

1,Get the new Z5500
2,Get another Z5300, get a splitter cable and setup a 10.2 setup
3,Keep the Bose companion and get special headphones for gaming.

I would read some reviews on the newer setup. if nothing is crazy different just get another one like you have now. you know you like it and if you blow any speakers your will have backups. :)

Looks like the Z906 is the successor to the Z5500.

Time to go review reading.

Logitech overloads the bass.

Agreed. the mid bass db is too high on the sub by default.

But you can use software to soften the mid bass and turn the sub gain knob down on the back of the sub enclosure for a pretty nice sounding set up.

between level controls on the module and decent software you can tweek it to do anything.but yeah a eq with crossovers built into the control module so you can pull some bass out of the little speakers would be the shit.fully adj. no sftware needed.i started to replace the 5 mains with some sweet infinity bookshelf and center channel speakers.just use the best things from the z5500-controler and sub.might still try that.

I was looking at the reviews for the Z906.

Logitech's facebook page comparing 5500 and the new z906 is an interesting read. The new speakers got PWNED!!!!

i pulled out a set of old rca center and surround speakers that have been in the closet a really long time.hooked them up in place of the logitechs and am really surprised just how much better they are.i dont beleive i ever really had these hooked up to a 5.1 amp before.much bigger and made of an actual wood type substance instead of plastic.and i can always upgrade the speakers in these if needed.so i think im going to list the whole z5500 setup on ebay and try to find a nice home theatre amp.i have a diamond audio 12 that is not going back in the car so might as well use that as the sub.i dont know i'll think of something lol.but i cant hardly beleive a old crappy set of pawn shop bought rca put those logitechs to shame and they were in the closet the whole time i've had the z5500.

Yeah, the more I read about it, more people recommended using a regular amp/reciever and decent speakers for a better experience compared to computer speakers. Heck, some even argue a generic  amp and 3.1 setup beats the high end 5.1 surround setup.

I eventually moved away from buying the z5500. I ended up buying another set of z5300s and connecting wire and using the control pod across both the sets of speakers for a 10.2 setup.  :2funny: . Will post pictures, when I get home.

I have been enjoying the joys of a double subs and it's great.

I ended up using the code from Fomo for a Harmony One universal remote.

nice! i made the move back to house speakers on my PC a while back. it just makes sense if you already have most of the stuff you need. just takes up more space in your room. i use the top of the speaker towers to set my receiver, router, modem and other stuff up on.

i got 2 JL 10s sitting here i don't have a use for ether. ebaying them would be a waste after shipping cost. i was thinking of getting a second receiver and running them on a bass only channel in combination with my Sony towers but after cranked up some dubstep an listened to the way everything is right now i just dont need any more bass... as it stands i can make the drywall shake.
